little bit of asvise needed, symptoms are gear stick feels like im stirring porridge, not very positive gear changes, and also 1st to 2nd gear channge isnt smooth, is that because of the gate for reverse or not?

Sounds more like the gear linkage than the gearbox, the bushes wear in the linkage.
Have a look in the tech articles for the Z3 gear lever conversion, buy all the parts bar the gearlever (unless you want a cheap effective short shifter) and rebuild your linkage.
