Fuel fault finding

I'm doing a project for an HND on fuel fault finding on 325i, and I have to make up a short fault finding guide.

I looking down the 'personal experience/preffered method' (Heuristic), and would be grateful if anyone would like to voice their own methods.

I'm starting from - engine turns over, but does not start (fuel tank full, battery OK)
