after a decent journey, long enough to warm the engine and gearbox oil up, pull up and put it in P, then there is a dipstick under the bonnet by the inlet manifold and fuseboard. It has a yellow handle and not red like the oil if u didn't know.they run on ATE dextron 2 same fluid as your power sterring rack, so if it's grey and horrible it needs changing, change the oil strainer too while your there

Won't a 5-speed be a manual 'box? If so jack the car up front and rear as level as possible (helps if you have 4 axle stands, or 2 axle stands and a pair of ramps), undo the filler plug on the side of the gearbox and you should be able to poke your little finger in the hole and touch the gear oil. If not, top it up to the bottom of the hole.

Thanks a lot driftboy. i was able to do it without any jackstands ...it was tough reaching all the way to the side of the trans....but i was able to drain it out and replace it ...it was a pain in the ass .... i believe it was fine though....it didnt fix the problem ...i think im gonna just have to replace the clutch and slave cylinder.......it needs some attention anyway...im gonna also change out the water pump and timing belt ....thanks again
