Yes, giving it large against a porker of a roundabout and heard a bang followed by a small dent appearing in the bonnet. Fan ate shroud tooWerkdE30 wrote:Hey im bored so i thaught id tell you guys what i found today. hmm mine went much more subtly than that. honestly that woulda scared the shit outta me. my fix looks to be fair bit cheaper too as the fan and shroud are fine.

Something similar happened to me in my old 325i a year or so ago,
Firstly the I noticed circular indent on the radiator fins from the fan. Crop circles for cars maybe.......
Turned out that upon heavy braking the whole lot was shifting forward so that the fan was hitting the radiator. Found this when i developed a leak!
So changing the rad and engine mounts, luckily got a rad froma pal for £20, so there was i thinking everything was sorted...........
My ex's stepdad is driving my 325i past Fontwell race course slowing heavily at a roundabout and bang shears an engine mount completely and ruins the rad!
I got the blame from his youngest daughter for ruining there Hol/Weekend!!!!!!
So I then got new mounts and cups which should apparently be fitted to the newer style engine mounts as they changed the design (I think for the E36). Plus 2 Gearbox mounts for good measure! Oh and a new Rad!
I had to use a block and scissor jack against the old rad to push the lump etc back to its correct position whilst securing g/box and engine mounts!
I also got some strips of plastic and covered the inner edges if the rad where the fan blade was likely to contact the fins, Not to bigger strips as it would have reduced air flow and cooling capacity of the rad!
Problem solved!
Wallet empty.
