Cat ready 325i engines were from 1991 I think, but not all cars had them fitted. Some 1991 and early 1992 (before August) cars will have cats fitted and these can be removed.

Cats must be fitted to cars registered after Aug 1992.

But to be honest, you could probably remove these and still pass the MOT. I had an Oct 1992 registered Cavalier that I removed the Cat from and it passed 2 or 3 MOTs no problems- it could depend on the MOT station tho winkeye

No car HAS to have a cat. It just has to meet the appropriate emission levels for it's date of registration, by whatever means you choose.

i would be very carefull the way you go about this because by removing the cat it will effect your emissions you could spend a fortune on your new exhaust only to fail the mot test on the emissions test and find the only way you will pass the test is to put your old exhaust back on again removing the cat will allmost surely mean you will have to remove the lambda sensor in the system this on its own may require you to get the fuel injection system set up by a specialist to get it to run right...good luck

You do not need to remove the Lambda sensor if you remove the Cat.
