Ive just purchased a brand new 3 peice exhaust. The rear and centre box I got from GSF and the front down pipe came from KMS in Birmingham.

Is this how they are suppose to join together? I understand the bottom pipe but how are the top pipes secured together as the front section pipe is actually inside the mid section pipe? have I got the right down pipe?
Cheers

Pretty sure thats the same as mine, and mines still the original.
One seal goes between the flanges and the other one goes over the end of the straight pipe, you have to have the sliding fit otherwise the join will sag because all the weight is resting on the bolts.

Bugger I was hoping you wouldn't say that.
Any Idea what I have then they said it was for a 325.
The thing is if there was a flange on the end of the pipe it wouldn't mate correctly. As it is it fits snugly inside the other pipe and mates perfectly apart from not knowing how the other pipe is secured

How may different types of down pipes are there as I doubt there would have been that many as you would never know which one you would need!
It's going in for its MOT on Saturday so I need to get the parts together before then. GSF only have a down pipe listed for a 320i so I was slightly reluctant to get that one because they didn't know if it would fit. Hence why I went to KMS as they had this listed for the 325i

Thanks

You either need a fitting kit  or just use the old clamps and seals (olives).
Good luck getting the old olive off and it may be worth getting new nuts and bolts, depending on the condition of your old ones.
There is NO nucleus.

I have a totally new fitting kit from GSF so I think everything should be in there then. This 3 peice system is replacing my 2 peice so I dont think ill be able to use any of the old parts. Plus they are mega rusty! :)

I asked the same question a week or two back. There is a fibre ring (on the inside) that slides over the down pipe with the flat edge. This will push up the pipe far enough so the other 2 meet. The 2 with the "lips" on the edges then join with a steel ring between them.

Hey Faz,

Well for the back and centre box, fitting kit and joining rings came to £169. Thats with the high quality back box. The down pipe was £41 from KMS. so i think (hope) i got a good deal :)
