My car has had a bad stutter now for a while. I started coming on gradualy, and now its constant, no matter what rpm, or gear. It is extremely barely noticable at idle, but once you give a bit of gass, there it goes...
Now, the problem is...... I have just had a look at the fuel pump in the tank..... I started the car, so, with it idling, I pulled all connecting wires to the pump - with no difference to the idle. Before pulling the wires, I heard no noise at all coming from the pump, to indicate that it was running.
Could this be the solution to my problem? Could it have not been working for sometime, and now the second pump is also on its way out?
89' 325i btw.
Thanks for the help guys.
What are the symptoms for a fubard fuel pump?

there should only be one fuel pump on an '89 model.
the pump must be running if the engine starts.
pulling the wires off the pump should make the engine stall.

Surely I'd hear the pump running though?

You have parallel threads going on the same problem, which cause duplication of answers and general confusion, so this one is being locked.
