gaz i don't want to dampen things further, but regarding the smoked hellas

those front lenses will not mate up properly with the standard bosch lights u will use i assume? The 3 screws which hold the back of the lights to the front unit are slightly out and will throw your headlamp aim out badly!

Sorry to bear more bad news but u only complete hella stuff works together and vice versa

i had this problem with my xenons ages ago. this is how i found out.

yeah but where do get the back hella part from without buying the whole light?

hella lights only come smoked as i understand it as all standard facelift E30 headlamps were bosch made?

I had hella ellipsoids on my M3 when I bought it, they didn't have the smiley cut out, just keep an eye out for some 2nd hand hella units, and swop the fronts over would be easiest option?

it would be. I didn't think hella supplied OE lights for E30's. I stand corrected

i've never come across them so far in standard clear form.

Ben bought the same lights, and problems fitting them.
I now need to source Hella back parts, I understand Hella made some lights for the E30 early chrome?.

I think he used 5 series parts.

Cheers Gareth.

Early chrome lights wouldn't have been ellipsoid, and will be totally useless, I'm pretty sure I still have my hellas in the garage, I only swopped them over due to smashed dipped, obviously this won't matter to you! I shall have a dig about in the garage tomorrow,

Cool! It's in nice condition, just a little shiny! IIRC, there was a very small scab on the left hand grip!?

Any E34 projector from a scrap yard will fit the hella fronts.

My home made smoked lamps are Hella main beam lamps, and Bosch outer dipped lamps, had no problem with mounting them, im sure the back plates are the same more or less

I had a look, and I can only find one side

Demlots suggestion of E34 parts seems to be the best bet though.... shouldn't be too difficult to find.

I may still have the Hella dipped lamps, if you want the projector parts I am working in Manchester till Wednesday this week so you could come and fetch them if you like?
