On the loom I have there's a single yellow wire which ends in a white plastic connector adjacent to the green multi-pin which fits to the back of the OBC unit, although the OBC appears to work without this yellow wire connected (it's not fully road tested as yet).

Can anyone tell me what it is and whether it really does do something?

For the independant fuel burning heater, that would be fitted to cars in colder climates, it's operated by setting the timer on the OBC, but your OBC will have a stopwatch instead
