Hello all,

I've got a couple of problems with my 318i cab that I was hoping for some of your thoughts on.

1. Flashing brake lining light
I've noticed that the brake lining light (the one to the left of the handbrake light) flashes on occasion, especially when I go over bumps in the road. I've had a quick check of the brake pads and these seem fine. When I come to do a proper check of the brakes and if the pads and linings are ok, what could the problem be?

2. The electric hood seems to work ok, as long as the motors in the boot aren't impeded by the protective cover. Every time the protective cover is put back into place in the boot, the back flap of the hood mechanism fails to open. When I pull the cover away to expose the motor, the flap works fine.

Appreciate any thoughts on the above. Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

Ben

It is definately your sensor then. Which means that if you are going through the trouble....go ahead amd replace you pads.....provided you have checked all the wires and they are fine.....

check for clearance problems.......... or just leave the boot off and keep it real clean.....

Ahhh, rob. Can always count on you for your expert cabrio advice !

I'll check the pads and sensor cables hopefully this weekend.

As for the hood, it's a strange one. I can't view the motor mechanism as the boot automatically shuts if it is slightly open when the hood is lowering. I tried doing this the other day to see if I could figure out whether the motors physically move out of their positions when the hood is operated. Nearly crushed my fingers in the process - doh.

You wouldn't happen to know how the motors move, would you?

Anyway, the temporary solution is, as you say, not to put the protective cover back over the motors. But it's dead ugly with the covers off, and if I have stuff in the boot then sometimes the contents can push onto the motor mechanism, which I want to avoid. Not sure what else to do but to trial and error until I figure this one out. But thanks for offering advice anyway.

I've been told that I'm lucky enough to have an electric hood that actually works, so perhaps beggars can't be choosers, eh.

Cheers

thre is a wire that goes from the boot lid to the motor which stops the motor working when the boot lid is up...could this be affected by the lining ...a possibility

i presume you checked the rear brakes as wel?... i still have spare set of pads for that reason

Thanks for the tip Dave, I'll look into it. I'll post back if I figure out what's wrong with either.

Cheers
