think may be different for you boys over the pond. i thought the 325is models came with the eta 2.7 engine, south africa have a similar thing. so for you a 325is could be a cab with the 2.7 engine.
325 sport with different box, lsd and some different trim bits is not called a 325is, just a 325i sport, but no difference in the badging.

hummmmm
this is a cabrio with a "325is" on the trunk lid. Could just be the truck lid off of a 325is coupe. Are the trunk lids the same on a 2dr cab and a 2dr coupe?

i may be wrong about this but i dont think the 325is even had the ''s'' on the bootlid, only car that to my knowledge with the ''s'' suffix is the 318is.
things to check, open the bonnet (hood!) and look down at the front of the block, in between the first and second spark plugs should be a stamp, it should say either 2.5 or 2.5/2.7. this means it is at least a 325, the 2.7 does not have its own stamp as the blocks are the same only crank/pistons are different. then look under at the rear differential, there should be a identity tag on it, if it has an ''S'' anywhere in the code it is a LSD.
if both these are positive then good chance it could be a sport, but if either are not there its a standard 325 or could even be a 320.
by the way what year is it? only the later cabs from 90 or 91 where true sports.

According to our good friend the Bentley manual, in the states you had a 325, 325e, and a 325es, all of which have the 2.7 engine rated at between 121 and 127 hp.
The 325i, 325is, and 325i Convertible all have the 2.5 engine as per the UK rated at 168 hp.
The answer is either a badge has been added or maybe they did produce a "sport" version of the convertible in the states. Either way, it is likely to be the standard 2.5 engine.
