Hey again guys,
Ok heres the deal. I have got 2 LSD's cheap. One is a large case 2.79 and the other is a 3.64 small case (very odd ratio indeed in small case is it?)
My questions:

Can the LSD be taken out of the large case diff and be put into an open type large casing diff (ratio 3.91)

Like wise with the 3.64 small case LSD - can i remove the LSD centre and put it into a small case open differential casing? (into a 318is 4.10 casing for example)

Is it easy enough to do?

Thanks again in advance!

small case to small case, large(medium) case to large case, are both fine.

large to small and vice versa is not poss.

oh, and all diffs are interchangeable internally, so long as the casing size is the same. ie, e36 centres can be used in e30 diffs etc.

as said, this is possible, but if you're gonna do it yourself, then i would thoroughly research what you're getting into.

we used to strip and rebuild diffs at my dealership, but its too complex and takes far too much time. everything has to be exactly perfect, even more so with LSD's, such as the pre-tension on the clutch plates, spacing to the nearest 100th mm, etc... if these are wrong, the diff will do horrid things, like not lock up, or lock up too soon or at the wrong time, and you'll end up blowing it to pieces and at worst, causing an accident and could injure yourself/someone else.

imo, its not worth the grief. theres plenty of companies out there who will undertake such a task though. driveshaft uk i know would do such a job. look a acompany like this and get a quote from them to do it
