Hello!

My first post :D

My e36 318i has a wierd idle, it jumps from about 1000rpm to about 600rpm, and sounds like its going to stall in the process.

Is there anything obvious it could be? IVC or TPS maybe?

As you can tell i dont know anything about the BMW engines :)

Thanks

Might be the ICV, but just as, if not more likely to be a vacuum leak with the rubber bellows between the AFM and the throttle body being the favourite.

I'll check for the vaccum leak now :D

Where abouts is the ICV?

Thanks

Probably at the back (bulkhead side) of the intake manifold. Just noticed it's an E36, but am sure they are in the same place on the E36 M40.

the icv is at the rear of the intake manifold. its a silver cylinder with two nozles on one end and a plug on the other.

My M40 does te same BTW and it aint the AFM hose at fault.

anyone know what controls the ICV?

It seems to be a common problem with e36s

try this

http://www.e36coupe.com/technical/Clean ... _Valve.pdf

I cleaned my icv on my e30 this week and it transformed the low speed running and the idling
