indicator stalk removal

hi ... have to change the indicator stalk on my 1988 320i saloon...does anyone know how the cowling comes off to get at the switch...found the 2 screws but it seems as if the steering wheel has to come off which is unusually drastic????

You'll need the steering wheel off anyway to get at the indicator stalk bolts.
