brought a 1988 320i ( yeah yeah i know blah blah not 325 etc) cab back with me from england to ni to do a full restore. she is absolutely mint everywhere, engine and body work, except for the wiring!!!!quick nose about and i found 10 miles of cable down the sides of the carpet. so out comes interior, up comes carpet, and out with the wire cutters. got rid of the brick of a car phone connection, etc, but when i traced all the wires back for the speakers and stereo, i cant find the original cables for her, everything seems to be piggy backed onto the demister. what a muppet, obviously let a colour blind gorilla into the dash with a pair of hedgetrimmers in his feet!!!! dont know how you could do this but anyway. then i get to the ecu!! doesnt look like she has been opened, but has me stumped on one thing. some one has a green wire running off it to a green multiplug, then a red wire running back into it! what the hell is it for?? why??? now the other thing that has me is this green/blue metal box on top of the ecu? what is it? relay control unit? why would some of the green plugs in the side be unplugged? think it could be anything to do with the rubbish after market immobiliser?
sorry for the book but better to try and give as much info in the one go
thanks kilso

This is always the job on a fresh E30 that I buy that makes life interesting! Have whiled away many hours sorting out this kind of thing, and wondering why it's been done like it in the first place, when in 99% of cases, BMW provided facilities for whatever they were trying to do in the first place.
Original audio system connections are a four pin socket which is part of the accessories socket at the back of the glovebox.
The only box I have seen on top of the ECU is a black box with green connectors. This contains a relay for the alarm incorporated into the OBC, and another relay for the immoboliser part of the OBC.
Look for a white two pin socket with two green wires coming out of the main loom above the top of the glovebox. Unplug anything that's connected to this, and look for a matchung plug with just a short loop of green wire taped up nearby. Plug this into the socket if you find it, otherwise cut the wires of the plug you removed, leaving a couple of inches of wire and join them together to make a loop.
" Green wire running to a green multiplug". Where's this multiplug?
