If you have no water in your rad, I suspect that its not just the head gasket that has gone, you have probably cracked the head, if not the bottom end.

Have you tried filling it back up with water? what does it do, is it actually mixing (oil/water) you may be lucky...

If you don't want to get bent over by a garage I would have a look yourself, you haven't really got anything to loose. Could be silly money (i,e £400+ if you need another head..)

If you can get the head off and get it pressure tested (about £50) at least you'll have saved labour charges for that much.

It really isn't that hard, just takes time, if you do decided to do it yourself its a great learning curve and there is loads of support on the Zone.

Dude!!... im no mecanic!! i had similar problems recently, all sorts of crazy stuff was happenin!! ie. loosin water, overheating, missfires blah blah and it all atarted as you thought!! (head gasket!!) trust... as you can see people already say "cracked head blah blah" but get it checked properly because in the end i changed my thermo, housing, and visous coupling and it so far seems to of sorted the problem out! ...i paid an hours labour to a good BMW garage to tell me exactly what was wrong!! there is no obligation to have it done there and you then know exactly what it is!!

i dont have a clue about this??? i just know there is no water in it, when i turn the ignition it fires but it does turn over on its own (not even with revving), have noticed creammy stuff on filler cap!

help me guys, i am struggling with this one and cant afford to be ripped off. It drove for a while but with very limited power, kept dropping the revs and stalling... help.

So have you driven it with no water?

The mayo doesn't sound to good to be honest.

Do you have a haynes manual?

Do you know any local garages who may be able to come and have a quick look?

If the engine is dead, start thinking about how much the rest of the car is worth before you spend money on it.

It could be something small, but I can't really see how.
