Hi guys just wondering the other day i was told that the 318is has got a forged crankshaft and pistons on the bottom end just wondering if that was true.
Also if there is a different head and gearbox that could go on the m42 lump as im in the process of a rebuild and need some advice
cheers guys

pistons are cast iirc, got some in my garage somewhere may take a look later. rods and crank are forged and really nice items. if you need any parts during the rebuild, send us a pm or whatever, i have a few spares kicking about including crank, rods, pistons etc.318isturbo wrote:Hi guys just wondering the other day i was told that the 318is has got a forged crankshaft and pistons on the bottom end just wondering if that was true.

head is fine, there are a few other options head-wise but as you're turbo ours is prob the best as it has the thickest valve stems. gearbox anything m5x bolts up to the engine iirc, but not sure about prop, linkage etc.

I thought the IS had forged pistons and crank shaft and lightend conrods. its quite a well speced engine! when you read about it. doesn't it have sodium cooled valves aswell???

Tim's right, forged conrods and crank, cast pistons. It does have sodium cooled exhaust valves and also adjustable cam gear I believe?
