right long story but my sister has a D reg 320i se which i gave her,
for the last 2 years it has had 2 recon boxes and has eaten them both(for no apperant reason)
the engine is starting to get smokey(vavle steam seals)
however i am a carlton/monza man,so i have taken the odd engine and box out ,
any how a friend has offerd us a 528ise which is scruffy and needs work for the MOT but has a excellent box and engine,
so the question is
how much work is it to make a B reg 528ise engine fit and run in a 86 320 auto
(both cars are autos)
any help would be greatfull recieve
all the best

If posible use a 3.5 because the 2.8 isn't worth the hassel of doing the swap because it doesn't make much power.
You could swap in a healthy 2.5 M20(same engine as your 2.0 litre engine) with a few basic mods like a chip/etc and be just as quick as the 2.8 M30
Another down side to using an early M30 is the sump and oil pick up pipe will need changing for the ones from a later M30.
If you still want to go a head with the swap i can sort you out with a sump and pick up pipe, i was going to save the sump for a spare but if you can't find one i'll sell it.
BTW i haven't got a clue what sort of issues you might have fitting an auto box as all the 335's that i know are all manuals.

ok if the engine is worth the hassle, are the gear boxes the same,
i dont mind doing a top end rebuild, but can the gear box come off with engine in sit?
