I want to change the oil in my LSD, but am getting conflicting info from local shops. I know it needs a different oil to a standard Diff. Can someone recommend a Make / type etc.

Thanks

Give your local BM dealer a call and ask them for 2L of LSD oil

They should know what your on about and will either supply a container (did with me) of take a 2L pop bottle along, cost around £20 iirc

any dealership will tell you it needs Castrol SLX-XJ. thats what we use in all the dealers. they'll then also tell you that they cant sell you diff oil in small quantities, and then you'll come back on here and moan about how gay they are!!

then i'll tell you, that if you live close enough to me, i might be able to help you out with some!!

Or go to a decent Motor Factors and buy some Comma LSD oil, less than £3 per litre.
Castrol do a similar mineral based oil (which im using in my M3 LSD) at around £5 per litre

yup, i ran the comma stuff for a year in my LSD without issues. it doesn't exactly match the viscosity BMW specify, but it's close, and a fraction of the price...
