Hi all. Posting this on behalf of my mate who recently bought my 1991 325i touring - it was running like a dream when he bought it, honestly!

It's done 108,000 miles and been regularly serviced, however it's recently developed a flat-spot/power-loss from 1500 rpm under load, he reckons it feels like it's running on choke but this sometimes clears sometimes not. He also said if you drive with your foot down constantly it doesn't feel as bad it also won't deliver steady power at low throttle. He also said it it will run ok at 80/90mph although it's not perfect it certainly runs cleaner at higher road speeds.

He's had the leads, plugs, rotor arm, fuel filter replaced and is running out of ideas and patience, does any have any further suggestions?

thanks in advance!!

my 325 has the exact same problem and i did pretty much the same thing your friend did to fix the problem. i was recently told by a mechanic that it could be the air mass meter he told me my car isn't breathing at low rpm's so he's testing the emissions and adjusting the setting on the meter.

sound a bit like my sport earlier this year

turned out to be a leaking inlet manifold gasket.

when the car is idling spray some carb cleaner or similar around the gaskets . if there is a leak the spray will seal it for a sec and the car will noticably idle bettter.

Check the vac hoses as well for leaks
