Is there any reason I shouldn't use heat to help me remove the hydraulic line from my clutch slave cylinder? I've got instructions that say to free it while on the car (318is), but there's no way in hell I can get a spanner onto it without detaching it first.

It's just being a total bitch and wont budge, so thought a bit of blow torch action might help free it up. Even if it doesn't it will surely be a good release of my frustrations, though I must take care not to burn myself on boiling fluid as I would then be forced to smash everything.

What say you lot?

Heat works wonders on those connections. you may want to bleed the system before hand to prevent the fluid from boiling.

A little more finesse is needed i think. otherwise you can just fook the pipe and connection. plus there isnt enough space between the bodywork and the grarbox to get a set of mole grips in the gap, never mind turn the thing.

To hell with the fluid I am only going to bleed it afterwards anyway. Care will be taken with the rubber hosing mind you.

Thanks for all the replies though. Even the brute force mole grip plan is not so crazy but I've ruined too many nuts & bolts that way before.
