Nope! you could use them, but the original lamps are 6V, wired in series.

I just finished doing this, except i used LEDs instead of bulbs - if you google for "e30 obc led backlight" (or something similar) then you should find a couple of articles.

I used ultrabright 4mm 90degree white LEDs and a 200ohm resistor. The 4mm LEDs fit into the white plastic bulb holders, and i cut the track linking the 2 LED's and soldered the resistor across it. LEDs will never die so it's a job you only need to do once. I'd suggest checking the brightness with it back in the obc though as i found it is slightly too bright for my liking, but a higher value resistor will sort that out.

or u could just go to the steelers and buy the replacement strip for 17 sheets but it is a special order part

i got mine from a local branch electrical parts dealer 30p each for the correct 5v bulb you have to replace both of them at the sime time but it is very easy to do

Just ordered a replacement from the stealers...

part no: 65811375461 £19.80+vat (but less the BMWCC discount)

couldn't be arsed to pfaff around with LEDs and whatnots...Although I may have a go with the old, duff one and see how it goes!
