Hi guys,
I think I've made my mind up to get a 318is. The mileage I get when giving it some stick won't bother me in the slightest, however I do a lot of town driving (30mph limit, single carriageway) and its often in heavy traffic.
Whats the best case scenario MPG wise for town driving? I can get around 38mpg in my existing car if I really try - 1.4 Civic.
I realise this isnt the car to get for being thrifty, but I wonder if I can get the best of both worlds?
Cheers guys.
E30 318is - MPG best case scenario?

Good choice of car
I can get around 30mpg from mine if i'm fairly careful - that's an average for driving to work (15 miles), though it used to be more - guess the engine needs some attention. That 30mpg figure is from the OBC i fitted, the higher figure was from noting mileage and amount of fuel each time i filled up about 18 months ago. So i guess you can expect at least 30mpg is what i'm getting at

Thanks guys.
I'm hoping for something like that. 30mpg isn't too silly around town. This isn't central London, but the traffic isn't that great... :/
Obviously, I can get a lot more on the motorway if I'm not in a hurry. Normally I just chill and listen to my music
Bob - really? thats great. I don't tend to hammer it around town anyway.. We'll see how I do I guess..
Ian - yes it is - how are you doing?

HA!
Just found out why my fuel consumption was worse than it used to be .... the OBC i fitted was measuring US gallons - now that i've changed it to UK gallons it suddenly reads 34.8M/G instead of 29.0MPG -- how pleased am I? Now i can put my foot down a bit harder without worrying about sub 30mpg figures

Assuming the OBC is the same as mine (the 13 button type) press the consumption button - if it reads MPG it's using US gallons, if it reads M/G it's using UK gallons. While it's still displaying the consumption use something thin to poke the tiny button on the bottom right and it'll switch units between L/100KM, MPG, and M/G

hah....thanks! that's me sh*tting myself because it's returning low 20's all the time. It's now showing alot more and is set to UK M/G....MANY THANKS!
The temp tho is showing farenheit and the little button I pressed to change the MPG data isn't changing it to degrees celsius
any ideas? It is the 13 button OBC btw

Unfortuneately you can't display UK consumption AND celcius
The computer only changes modes when the consumption is displayed, and changes it between German/American/English - it's annoying tbh because i'd like the UK consumption, the US temperature (Celcius) and the German time (24hr clock) but as it is i've settled with Farenheit and 12 hour clock cos i want to know what the fuel consumption really is
And since i took the OBC from a 325e and didn't know all the bits that came with it, i don't actually have the temp sensor anyway so mine constantly reads -22F (but i'd rather it constantly read -30C) ;)
