The straght 6 conversion is relatively common.

So I reckon the hardest thing will be the SMG. Predominately getting the paddles fitted and then gettign them to talk to the gearbox ECU.

Apparently there's a guy that goes to my local dealer that has this conversion (in E30 M3), dubious I know but still - there are some people out there that keep to themselves and no one is any wiser! Maybe E30Adam knows a bit more..

Also a supercharged E30 M3 was in at my mate's garage a few months back, again no one round here has heard of him.

Can add a bit of crediability to this, my brother is a service technician at BMW Scotthalls Chandlers Ford, said there is a rumor of an E46 powered E30 M3

That's probably Henry (Macau Blue M3 with some very nice deep dish rims), but it's the E36 M3 Evo engine, not the E46 M3.

There was one for sale on ebay a while back with the running gear. The guy said he bout it for a E30 transplant. I think he wanted £3.5k or something like that. I was tempted, but it would probably cost double that to have it put into my car :(
