Right I really fancy doing somthing to my car to make it a bit quicker as it's off the road at the moment as I have to do the gearbox.

I have toyed with the idea of an M50 conversion, but have decided against it as I don't want to do too much rewireing to start with and I already have a silent LSD that I don't want to change.

The car is a 325i touring BTW - so today I have been thinking about trying a 2.7 or somthing bigger as I can work on that and have the car running at the same time by building up an engine in a spare block. I have been looking at the Ireland engineering sit and their 3ltr for ideas........ I haven't got that much money!

So does anyone have an suggestions??? I don't think turboing is a good idea as I'm only 23 and insurance could be tricky. Also does anyone have a 2.7 crank or an e36 M3 crank lying around, or any other tuning parts that may get me started off in a direction.

You can use an E36 M3 crank to make a 2.7...? I didn't know that.

That MasterBates chap has a full engine for sale... all ready to drop in and zoom off.

Good luck!

Na you can use an e36 M3 crank to make a 2.9 or 3ltr M20 I think....although I may have to check my facts.

What engine has he got?

Andy sold that 2.7 Giles,

Widge, the 3.0 strokers are a bad combo of internals IMHO, I'd opt for the 2.9, M52 crank, 320/323/eta rods and some 1mm oversized pistons.

retains the oversquare slightly and the bigger bore will help unshroud the valves

pistons from the US inc total seal rings wont eat more than £400 inc import duty.

or, Turbo it, my insurance is cheaper than stock since I declared all the mods , Ok I'm not 23 but I'm not that old yet

Specifically what's wrong with the 3.0 ltr internals ANT? They must be OK if Ireland engineering are charging top whack for it.

I would have thought the bore size would make the wall's of the block too thin thus it would be prone to cracking. 8O

Na mate, you only go 1mm over which is ok on the M20 but no more is allowed. I think Ant may think it's too much throw.

Well Ant is suggesting another crank so he must have some reason for not liking the S50 crank.
Does any one know if an S52 crank coulod be use too???? and would this be the crank Ireland engineering use in their 3.2/3 ltr stroker kit?

What kind of power could you expect with that combo

Didnt you say the 2.8 E36 engine would be a good conversion :drive:

:squint:

they're expensive because they cost a lot to make and only sell in very small quantities. that doesn't necessarily mean they must be good

I didn't man it that way mate, I meant if they were crap Ireland wouldn't have thwe good reputation thy do as they would be known for charging lodsa mony for crap. I know they are expensive cos the cranks are rare, that's why their 3.2 ltr kit is on offer for the price of the 3ltr kit.
Still $2500!
