does any one know what the idea is with the 325ix, was it built as an off-roader or just an e30 that was supposed to have handling similar to the m3, but why, when the 325ix could never even get near an m3, and its not really gonna make the greatest off-roader seeing how low it is

I thnk its just a 4wd E30 for Europeans who need to drive their cars thru snow. Its ride height is a bit higher than standard but i doubt its much of an off roader. They still sell 3 series X 4wd models in Europe, pretty sure theres a E46 one...

The 325iX was built to compete in rallying to give the Audi Quattros a run for their money, it also contested in the european touring car championship until the M3 was built. It was a case of the wrong car at the wrong time and also suffered from reliability problems, the transfer boxes were quite weak. This was not a problem on the production car as they were less powerful and driven slowly ( ha ha).
I think the X suffered from some rule change in rallying shortly after it was introduced.
Would make a nice car to have at my chalet in switzerland (yeah right like I'll ever have one of those

325i, slightly higher ride height, heavy, slower, centre diff to split power front to rear.
Same engine as a 325i but alot slower due to the weight and transmission loss.
No good off road atall, but ideal for snow and slippery roads.
