Got the hood up (for the first time I might add). Wanted to check where the faint whiff of fuel in my car was comign from - another matter, anyway I digress...

Gave the throttle a little move with my hand and after a second or two it went back to where it had been although was revving more. Now the car idles at about 1500.... Visually the throttle assembly appears the same and returns all the way back to the normal point.

Any ideas as to what my inate technical wizardry has done?

Thanks

you may have adjusted the position of the cable have you tried fiddling about with it in general to see if it would go back and further?
take the black BMW thing off and see if there is anyting stopping it from shutting

you might find that when revving, the outer cable has come out of its seating, keeping the throttle on a bit.
Easiest to go and check and make sure its in right!

Fuel smell is probably the small fuel pipes going to the inlet manifold area, prone to cracking/perishing!

HTH :)

You were both right - many thanks.

I had pulled the outer cable out with my ham-fisted antics.

God I love this place - sorted!
