Break - buy 325 ...........not worth the hassle of rebuilding. Money you get from breaking will offset the cost of a decent 325.

Could bung a 3.5 in it for good measure
Not teaching you to suck eggs or anything, but one car's pretty much the same as another and anything you know about Vauxhall's will to a greater or lesser degree be applicable to your E30.
Would be a shame to scrap that M3 rep shell for the sake of an engine swap too!

I dont know shit about engine conversions but look at me! Mbloody50 going in. It will be easy to change from a 323i to a 325i m20, or go the full hog and get a bloody M50 in there
Go on, ive convinced two other zoners to do it!

Get yourself an engine and put up a wanted "help" post and watch them come flocking.

You'll need to do somthing about those front wings won't you mate?? The engine swap should be easy, especially if you have a donor for all the little fried bits. Hire a trailer and borrow you long lost uncles pick up truck, you got yow self a convoy!

Go for the 323 mate, then at a later date you can go silly and do a cam and throttle bodies so it will actually look more M3 ish under the bonnet, or more like a racing/track car, would sound sweet too.

323i was meant to be quite quick? Glad your keeping it.

Yeah my mates dad insists that the 323i's were quicker than the 325i's. haven't a clue wether this is true though.

I think its the gearing that makes them quicker to 60 but not top end, I could only get 125 out of my old 323i

Short shift conversion for 1
The just give it a really good service, timing belt, set tappets and a rocker cover gasket, oil change, Box and diff oil, clean the icv and TB - BBTB would be a really good mod - and maybe some new hoses.

Go BBTB, even better!!!, you'll need to play with the manifold though if it's going to actually make any difference. You could just got to a 2.5 inlet maniflold. Chip would be good too, although I'm sketchy how that would work on a 323... Wouldn't bother with changing the injectors mate unless you went to ITB's and mapping, um as for the 325 inlet manifold you'd have to port the head to match otherwise ther would be a step which would make it all pointless, depends how far you want to go - you could fit a cam. Depends if you want to get it back on the road asap, or if you can take the time whils the shell is being sprayed to do the engine. E36 steering rack???

you could always go a bit further
i had a similar plan for this engine to go into my grey 320i
Iain temple had some very good ideas for upping the power and making it into a 323 that would rag 325s
it may be worth asking him his oppinions
my plans did involve a cam change and 3 angle grinds on the valves etc
but would have put pout some nice power
