Right. I seem to have to horns, one on either side of the car, one red and one black. I assume one is for the alarm (no longer fitted) maybe the red one?? The other one is on the offside and has some sort of twin speaker wire coming from it and coiled up behind the lights.
Any help as to where these should go, because I'm getting fed up of shouting "Oi" all the time.

Lower spec E30s have a single horn mounted on the bonnet hinge rail behind the centre grill. Higher spec E30s have two horns - one behind each foglight.
OBC also has a horn under a metal cover behind the left foglight.
None of them should be red or wired with coiled up speaker wire.
Your first port of call is the fusebox. Listen carefully to relay K2 when the horn switch is pressed (ignition on). It should click.
Pull out relay K2 and link together pins 30 and 87 of its socket. Horn(s) should work.

Thank's for the help Brian.
I didn't look too well.
I have a small round speaker like horn behind the left foglight and I have 2 horns on the right hand side, one behind the lights and one beneath, behind the foglight.
The one behind the lights is the one with the speaker wire and goes nowhere, the one below it has no wires going to it although there is a brown and a violet/yellow sitting behind the front light with right angled push on bullet connectors, which are too small to push on.
I have now checked the relay and I get voltage with ignition on and off, but nothing when the horn is depressed.
It's a aftermarket wheel which has one black wire going to the horn push and that's all.
Shouldn't there be 2 on there is one grounded somewhere.
Just going to check the 30 and 87 now.
Thanks Brian.

Linked 30 & 87 and daisey linked the 2 horns and success, damn good horn!!
Still doesn't work from the horn push though, what should I be looking for. I take it there is an open circuit which becomes close when the horn is pushed?
I seem to remember when I had the trim off that the black wire from the horn connected to somewhere around the steering column.

Brown/yellow wire goes to the steering wheel and has to be earthed to the column metalwork to make the horn sound.
Standard setup uses a carbom brush on the underside of the column contacting a brass ring on the back of the steering wheel.

Cheers Brian, off to have a look now.
Not wanting to blow smoke up your bum mate, but without your ongoing help I'm sure I would have offloaded her by now.
so a big thank you mate.

Took the steering wheel off today (MOMO) and boss and found a large spacer on the steering rack spline. With the spacer on, the contact for the horn didn't touch the boss!!
took the spacer off and now the horn works and so doe's the indicater return (never knew it had one) and the wobbly steering seems to have gone.
How happy am I.
