Hello everyone from NZ.....

driving back into town about an hour ago in my '87 320i...doing about 60 kmh.....no problems...then sudden loss of power, stuttering along I pulled over to let let traffic past, then hobbled around in second gear until I lost power in that gear too...
I popped the bonnet expecting the worst, but the only thing I could detect was a slight whiff of petrol(leak?) from the injector nearest the cab firewall...
Anyway, after 5 or so minutes I turned her over again and was able to drive off with no problem at all.
I can't get this car into the garage until tuesday 1st March(small NZ town, only one bimmer specialist)....what do you think guys? A bad batch of fuel? Injector problems? And do I drive her between now and 1st March, as I have never had this problem before.

Cheers MR_R (bloody hot here by the way :) )

Could be a fuel pump or injector problem?
I had something similar in my Astra and it was a dodgy connection to the fuel pump.

It was scary when it happened to me though as I was on the fast lane of the motorway at the time and came to a sudden stop and had to use the starter to pull it off the road as much as possible!

Sounds like dirt in your fuel line somewhere.... check the fuel filter to see if it's dirty/ blocked. That's usually where the problem manifests itself.
If that's what's wrong, chuck some fuel detergent additive in a full tank, change the filter and go for a run!! :D
