Can anyone tell me if it is possible to remap a 89 320i m20 engine and if so is it prefarable to chipping???
What sort of gains would i be looking at??

If your engine is totally stock (or even mostly stock), remapping will only have a marginal benefit at best over chipping, but at the same time being MUCH more involving.
Save yourself the headache of remapping, and get a chip. They make them for you car, and they're within 98% optimization compared to a custom remap (again ONLY if your engine is stock.. if it's modified, then remap). I believe there exists a 320i Zone chip. You won't be disappointed.
