just seeing what the opinion out there is,
should i spend a bit of money and start to sort out all the niggly problems on my 318 and respray it in the summer, or just run it into the ground and eventualy get a new car?
its got 160k miles and mot'd to 5th november (no bonfire jokes!)
decisions decisions...

Depends on how much needs sorting at the end of the day I guess?
Unless its a fortune, or you crave more power then I'd say sort it - at least you know the car

Purely in financial terms it's nowhere near worth it - sad fact is that a 4-door 318i with those miles is gonna be worth less than the respray would cost you...
The 'niggly bits' are probably worth sorting though - just don't throw a fortune at it & then wish you'd spent the money on something 'better' in the first place!

Run it in to the ground, fix any really annoying niggles, but try and do it cheaply. Then by the time it is dead you'll be ready for somthing bigger / faster / more expensive, and you'll be happy you saved the money.

I had this problem when the car failed the MOT.
In the end I decided to shell out and have it fixed as I'd known the car for 10 years so had no nasty surprises to look forward to.
Fix the niggles but leave the respray I think.

cheers for the reply's so far
i should've mentioned im a spraypainter so i'd be doing that myself, but get a new front wing and new rear arches welded in at the same time, and some plates welded in the pockets in the boot, so it would still cost a wee bit but not too much.
the car also needs a fuel tank, exhaust manifold, loads of bushes and a drivers door lock barrel. im either going to go the whole hog or do nothing, but cant decide what one yet!

Saying that im glad i did it as its totaly rust free and mtech/m3 specked. (except power/handling!).
The engine may give up soon on those miles, engine swap?
