My glovebox wouldn't open t'other day; the handle did nothing. Problem was that I needed to get in there urgently, so I'm now in need of a new glovebox! Am I going to be able to swap the lock over to a new one? I'm guessing there's something broken in there, but I wouldn't have thought it was the actual lock as it wasn't even locked at the time.

In my efforts to get in there, the handle's no longer attached, & as I still couldn't get the f***er to open, the actual door to the box is ripped in half; it still isn't open! Any ideas on how to get it open, & swap a new box in? It was dark at the time, & I haven't had chance to look yet...

How do i stop this happening again btw?!

If you need a new one i have two one for early and late models you can have for a couple of quid plus post.Best way to get it open is try to get to the 2 tabs and push them in.The box should just drop open.

Dya reckon I need a new one?!

It's an early one that I need... The lock barrel came out really easily too so I need everything apart from that. The handle & box are thoroughly dead!

My glove box wouldnt open when I bought my car mate!!

When I pulled the handle, it did nothing! After ripping it all out, I turned out that there was nothing wrong with the handle at all.

Check the metal plate that the glovebox locks into and make sure it is not bent as when you fit the new lock or glove box, it will just jam again.

I was gutted when my lock gammed, as I didnt know how to get it open and ended up ripping it all to bit in the same way up have,, to find out that you can just pull the glovebox door down a little and release a couple of screws to open it up or just take the bolts out of the hinge to give it a bit play and it all falls open. :x lol

Well if you've got a black, early type one, then I guess I might as well see the pics, but I doubt that's really necessary... Dya reckon you could find out postage costs though?

Cheers! :thumb:

I'll make sure I have a look! I won't be able to tell if any of the mechanism was broken before, cos there's a fair chance I broke it trying to get in! :x

Glove box suddenly decided not to open hey?

U aint the only one to suffer from it, its happened to me with 2 cars now! I found the best way is to get under & behind it then drop the hinges. This prevents any of those hideous pictures being posted on here!! To do this it helps if ur not 6'3'' as the footwells arent the biggest around!!
Obviously u will need to replace either the lock & handle or the whole unit as i did.
