I'm thinking of getting new sport seats for my E30 as all the second hand sport seats seem to have some damage or other to the drivers seat. Anyway, I was thinking of getting highbacks as they seem the most plentyful around, but was wondering if they would look OK as the rest of the car is original BMW stuff.
Any thoughts?
Highback seats in an E30

car seats are probably the single biggest determinant of ride and general comfort in any car, so if yours is used on the road, especially for longer journeys, i'd recommend go for as comfortable as you can find.
if you're racing however, safety and perfomance is your consideration and comfort is very much secondary.
a pretty knackered pair of sport seats can be repaired and re-trimmed to be as good as new for about 300. in knackered condition they can be bought for little money. i reckon you could walk out of halfords having spent 300 on seats and frames and have seats that don't match the rest of your car and are not as good quality or as comfortable as bmw 'recaros'. they'll also devalue the car against the same car with original seats.
a full 'comfort' set of seats could be found in mint condition for about 100. they'll smarten up any worn interior.
so i'd recommend stick to original seats unless racing type performance is what you're after.
regular visits to your local scrappy will, sooner or later, reveal some decent seats you can bolt in while others are worked upon.

i saw a doctor and she gave me some pills....

Thanks for the feedback Paul. A couple of guys in the BMW Car Club expressed similar feelings and inside I thought the same, but just wanted to get some opinions before deciding what to do. I'm actually looking now into the purchase of a used set of cloth sport seats, so hopefully this will work out. All other items added to the car have been original BMW stuff, so that is why I was doubtful about the highbacks. It's not a trackday car, but a daily driver.
