Hi guys, need a bit of help with my 89 316 M10 carb engine.
Keeps staling when cold. Starts ok no issues, runs ok for a bit and then just dies. It looks like it dies when the engine gets a bit warmer and it wants to drop RPM's a bit. Starts again from half turn and runs ok until it looks like it wants to drop RPM's a bit. If I catch it with a bit of help from the acceleration peddle it's ok. Same every morning until warms up. Not sure if this is a part of the problem but my MPG gauge never leaves 30L/100km side (right-hand drive car). The thermostat was recently changed too.
Thank you,
Andy

Sounds like a blocked or semi blocked one of the jets. I would take the top of carb off clean the jets and the float chamber. You may need to get the gasket first in case you damage old gasket. They seem to be available from dealers. When you do this make sure you don’t drop any bits into the inlet manifold or take the carb off and then pull it apart. Check the flexible gasket between carb and manifold. They are known to become porous.
My only problem with Weber installation is you lose your auto choke and your mpg gauge facility. I would also check your electrically connections on the carb are sound.
If I am not mistaken there is a temperature sensor somewhere separate from coolant sensor.

May need to see what would cost to get that carb looked at.

Some of the parts from BMW for an E30 have gone up quite a bit during the last year if they are still available! I do not think there are many still running carbs that were originally fitted so support is virtually non existence.
