Hi all,

I'm looking for a cruise control actuator to either test, or buy as I don't think mine works. (I get output from the ECUI to the actuator, but it doesn't make the throttle move, so I therefore think the ECU/wiring is all OK.)

If it matters, the car is a 1989 build. I know some of the cruise changed in 87, but I dunno if the actuator was a part of that.

Failing that, if there's anyone who knows enough to repair/service an actuator, that'd be great too! (I've stripped it/tested it, and it does work on a bench (as in - the cable moves), but I don't think it's put together quite right to actually operate the throttle).

Thanks!
Joe

Do you have any photos of the unit as my 88 has CC so could check or pop down as I am only in Shepherds Bush.

Is yours a manual or auto?
I've fitted mine but not working as I've messed up the wiring for sure. Could try copying your wiring if possible...

Ah, sorry for the delay.

I think I worked this out, but forgot to update it.

I have this actuator: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partse ... &q=1373681
which is for 1983 onwards.

There was a new design in 1897 (https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partse ... 5711386242)
which wasn't backwards compatible with the part I have. I therefore assume there's a mismatch between my 1989 car, later model cruise ECU and this 'first revision' actuator. So now I'm on the lookout for 65711386242 (and will have an earlier model one up for sale once I've got the later model fitted).

Various bits of the wiki suggest there was a change in '87 and bits aren't backwards compatible, so I'm hoping that's the case here.

Mine is a manual too (no clutch switch though), if that's worth anything to @twenty.
