Hi everyone,

As the title suggests I need to replace my tie rods and am wondering if anyone has experience with MEYLE ones or had good/bad experience with others to recommend a quality part.

I am also replacing the clutch slave cylinder as the outer most rubber seal has split, but the more spring-shaped seal behind it is fine and doesn't leak fluid.
I had the clutch changed yesterday and still have a very high biting point so will bleed the system soon but as it's an easy part to change out thought I'd do it for peace of mind.

Was thinking of going Febi Bilstein for the slave cylinder.

Many thanks in advance :)

Just go with the usual well known brands

Sachs for certain parts, especially for clutch parts, bit harder to get
Then Febi or Lemforder
Then Meyle

I've got Febi slave and master cylinders to fit when I get round to it

Perfect, thanks for backing up what I thought!! The clutch I fitted was sachs and got febi bilstein engine and gearbox mounts too which seem great quality.

I keep seeing two types of tie rod assembly, one for cars with a steering damper and one for those without?? How do I tell if I've got steering damper? It's a 1990 with power steering

If the rack has a steering damper it would be manual, pas racks don't have them

I dont rate Meyle parts at all, they are just ok aftermarket quality. Lemforder is what you should be looking for

The Original 30 year old control arms that came off my E30 had the Lemförder and BMW logos on them.

The original 30 year old tie rods had TRW and BMW on them.

I just got the same brand ones, i was a bit disappointed from Lemförder, they are now outsourcing all their manufacturing in China, but so are Sachs, Meyle and several other brands.

The only brand, regarding suspension components, that still manufacture in Germany, to my knowledge and experience recently, is Febi. Even their packages are sealed, unlike the rest. However, 2 years with replaced control arms and tie rods and no play.

I believe i replaced both clutch master and slave cylinder with Febi as well, no issues and also 2+ years installed.

There is a well known racing shop in the US called Ireland Engineering, they swear by Febi control arms. They claim that they lasted the longest on their race cars compared to genuine and aftermarket brands (you can read their claim on their website), not saying that it is true, but i have been very happy with Febi products lately, compared to the rest.
