I have turned my attention to the none working temp guage. Car gets warm, heater is nice and hot, gauge only moves 2mm when ignition is turned on. Putting the single wire to earth has no impact. Looking at the forum I am not sure if I have plug c101. Mine looks different. I have pulled the binnacle and tightened the nut on the bark but still no luck. I think it's within this plug thing. Here's what I have

323's do not have the standard C101. Our equivalent is a plug under the higlited cover in the attached photo. Should you clean that plug and still have the issue. I suggest taking the gauge itself out of the cluster and directly connecting it to a battery and it should mark max temp.

OK so binnacle out and tested the temp guage. It didn't work. And then it sprung into life!! The car has beed stood for over a decade so things are loosening up. Its a bit intermittent but at least it's a sticky guage and nowt more dubious. Once again Brian was right and I didn't need a new sender

These days it is "turn it off and turn it on again"
It is the 1980s it was "take it apart , clean it up, put it back together again"
Same thing different decades
