Im trying to keep my '88 325xi original. The factory stereo worked fine when I started, but now the screen freezes up and doesnt show valid info. Everything else workes fine except the preset lights dont illuminate when you select a preset station. Its literally just the screen. Any one have any ideas?

If the display is connected by the usual method of a strip of foam rubber with conductive strips embedded in it, just re positioning the strip, or applying greater pressure to it may be the solution

It actually is not. It has a ribbon strip soldered to it and goes into the main board. I did try resetting the ribbon to no avail. Think it could be the display itself? It does have a chip attached to it.
