I know there has been a lot of threads about this in the past, but I'm looking for the quickest and easiest way to install an oil temp gauge. As I've done the oil cooler delete it would be great to know how hot the oil is getting when doing longer runs and when the revs are in the upper range for longer periods. I was wondering if the oil filter location is a good place to take a reading.

I'm looking at installing this gauge near the hazard light switch

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/153263705745

And then a sandwich adaptor for the oil filter like this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353025329701

I may look for a better quality sandwich plate as that one seems too cheap.

Would that all be as easy to install as it seems? And is the oil filter location a reliable place to take a reading?

if you want to fit an oil pressure gauge then the ideal place for the sensor is the same place as the stock sensor using a T piece,

i take it this is on an m20?

thats for a vdo gauge but the process is near enough the same.

Oil filter housing is the best place to take your reading from, I wouldn't worry about the block being cheap, it's a lump of aluminium with no moving parts, it just needs to have accurate dimensions. Id replace the O rings as china always supplies sh*te quality O rings!

Well done lads :thumb:

Should be quite straightforward then, and what I like about that gauge is i dont have to worry about cutting up the interior
