Finally decided to dump my Pioneer from 1994 and replace it with something more modern but with a retro look.
Nice rotary knobs instead of stupid buttons that squeek for the volume control.
Exactly right display color.
Front panel USB - there's a 32gb stick stuck in there in the photo - very tiny.
Already have Ground Zero's all round -
Runs totaly cool all day set up good and loud with the roof off - class D power amps - brilliant.
Aux input for the older Ipod or phone users -
CD or not - Bluetooth or not, DAB or not depends on the model.
This one cost £100
Downside - front doesn't come off.
Do the Continental

It was plug and play - checked the connector block which was on the Pioneer agianst the new unit - all the same,
fitted the new cage - slipped it in, fitted the surround - done. You can see the antenae switch I made so you can have the CD or USB running with the aeriel down -
'cos the mast makes a bit of a racket at high speed with the roof down! - important here, as it's fine to drive as fast as you like on the autobahn!

Well, that answers the question I was going to ask! Been trying to work out what on earth that symbol on the switch was.
Thar really does look the part - I'll make sure my lad fits one to the touring he's working on, so I can enjoy it when I borrow it.
Presumably the connector on this is a standard ISO plug, which wasn't standard on E30s until the very last production runs, although looms with an ISO on one end and the E30 accessories socket plug on the other end are available on ebay.
You say it's fixed front. Is there any security feature on this?

Hi Brian,
The aerial switch is a modded emergency flasher switch - great addition for a cabby - I'm afraid there's no security for the system at all - but in adverse conditions you can push the supplied
removal tools in and pull the complete unit out - better than nothing I guess.
Absolutely standard ISO sockets on the back - plus extra socket for various other bits like aux connectors ( included )
By the way, I bought a dummy cover that makes the system look like an ancient MW/LW crappy radio - not arrived yet but maybe it'll be enough to put some people off.. also I'm
not sure how much of a market there is for nicked car radios - sure not any on ebay anymore.

The radio you've fitted does look period for the age, which is what I want to have in mine.
What was the choice BMW fitted back in the day? Blaupunkt?
