Whilst poking around in my engine bay the other day I noticed this connector for a sensor with nothing attached to it....anyone got any idea what the bajeezuz it's for??It's by the firewall ,around intake/rocker cover kinda area....
(It posts the picture rotated for some reason, so please don't snap your neck trying to look at it!)

Not something I recognise, could be an after-market accessory, like an alarm. Where does its cable come from?

What engine are we looking at?
Is this part of the engine loom, part of the body loom or neither?
What is the exact colours of the wires going to it (under the black sheath)?

Its a 84' 320i.
I'm not sure of the cable colours or what loom it's part of,I'll have a peep and hopefully have some more details...

After further investigation,I think that Chris HC you might be right, as it seems the connector is purely to power some device which is no longer in the vehicle.The cable joins up to a simple loom which goes from the FuseBox to an ancillary + connection on the battery:
