So I'm cleaning up my M20 block, and find that there is some small, but significant damage to the block surface exactly
where the head gasket failed - between the water ways and No.6 cylinder bore.
There are also some scratches on the head in the same place, but these will go after the skim.
So, when I set the new head gasket would it be wise to add a small area of sealant to help - what's best practice without a block skim?
There's no damage around the flame ring area on the block, but the old gasket had a rusted out flame ring, indicating water ingress.
