Rack knock

So my steering rack had been set off center when I bought it, so I re centered it and now have a knock when the engine is off so no power steering fluid pressure

I get the knock by grabbing the wheel and pulling it left and right with some gusto.

You can feel it emanates from the rack when under the car and the misses turns the steering.

This does not happen when the engine is running with fluid pressure.

Is this a normal indication of wear and did the previous smart arse shift the centering so the wear would not be detectable so easily.

Any thoughts - new rack time?

I believe you can buy repair kits for these depending how far gone it is.

Thanks Mart, I'm gonna get to the bottom of this when I pull out the whole front suspension later this summer
for a rebuild.

Pretty good Paul, I have put the sticks away for good I hope I just ache like hell sometimes , that could be age anyway.lol.
