Any ideas? It’s like a whistling sort of noise when I take my foot off accelerator to slow down but disappears when I press the pedal again? I don’t have any specials mods that’d do this by the way, just anstandard m40b18 engine and it’s annoying me because I don’t fancy the car dying on me

When you take your foot off of the accelerator, the vacuum in the inlet plenum increase to maximum, so a whistle probably indicates a small air leak into the inlet.
Plenty of possibilities, but inlet manifold gasket would be a likely candidate.

Is it definitely coming from the engine bay?
Could it be a worn or loose diff pinion? Or some other driveline noise?
Mine makes a bit of a whirring sound when it's not under load (on a neutral throttle)

As above mentioned, possible leak in the inlet manifold,i had the same problem with mine, turned out i didn't tightened up one of the bolts at the vacuum pipe.
