I'm waiting for my week off to spend some time on my e30 and make it roadworthy to have a bit of fun with it before the big rebuild.
There are a couple of problems that it has and needs to be addressed, any suggestion/help would be really appreciated:
- Alt belt noisy: this is easy hehe, already bought a set of 2 belts (alt and power steering) that I'm going to fit on, question is: can I do it without the need of removing the rad (like from underneath)?
- Knocking noise from front left wheel: this is an heavy knocking noise whenever the car is in movement, or just by pushing the car down on that side. AFAIK the previous owner installed bilstein shocks with eibach springs on before giving the car to me. I'm going to check on the car itself but if someone else knows what could be the cause I could start to buy the parts already
- Brakes' pedal soft: this is a bit scary, when driving the car and braking the pedal feels soft and useless till it's half way down, from that point onward the brakes start to work correctly. The previous owner changed both brake discs and pads and the rear drums shoes too... I believe it just needs a good bleeding but, otherwise, whatelse could be the problem?
- Heath blowers: they completely don't work, tried all the positions, absolutely nothing works, AFAIK should be the blower motor (so looking for one), hopefully I'm right on this
- Stereo: doesn't work, it has an OEM Cassette stereo with 6 CD Charger at the back, the stereo lights on but its display doesn't, and there is absolutely no sound from the speakers (not even white noise). Does the e30 use an amplifier? or is the old style stereo-to-wire-to-speakers? Any suggestions where to look?
- Central locking: well, this is a bit of a fun thing (thankfully I got 2 keys for it lol), to unlock the car I need to use the key on each single door and boot (coupe), the central locking doesn't work to unlock all the doors, and it doesn't work completely to lock any door (have to lock it by pushing down the pin and then closing the door, and forgetting the key inside is not the best thing to do). I've found out on other pages that the central locking could just be "defective" due to age, and simply by removing it, opening, and fixing the connection should fix the problem. Any other ideas on why this doesn't work?
- Sunroof: A GOOD THING!!! The guy gave me the car saying "the sunroof doesn't work, it's broken", so I didn't bother much trying it, until last sunday, where I decided to "push" the line whilst opening it and... IT WORKS! All the possible ways! So, on this, I believe that just the seals around it are gone (they are really ruined and fall into pieces), problem is: they are bloody expensive (£80+) any suggestions where to get some other a bit cheaper please?
- Headlights wipers: the previous owner thought that looked bad (aaaaaaargh blasfemy!) so he took them away, I got them and need to put them back, any suggestion or how-to? I can't get my head around it yet
- Fog lights: none of them works, ordered new bulbs (got no time to stop in a shop), and will first see if the bulbs were the problem, then will check the fuses, hopefully is just as stupid as this. But I have noticed that the sign on the dashboard doesn't light up if I push one of the buttons
- Windscreen washer and wipers: the wipers works, but have a mind of their own, when activating them they are reeeeeeeally slow, then speed up, then stutter, then speed up again... could it just be dirty motor or need a new one? And the washer works... to infinity and beyond! Turn that on and the washer motor won't stop unless I turn off the car. Could this be just a simple bad/dirty connector?
Sorry for the long post, and thank you for any suggestion and/or help
