My key only works on the drivers door. Should it work on both doors and boot?

Nope... but i think its easy enough to change locks, ask one of the guys on here breaking e30's for a cheap set.
least they will all match.
(central locking is another matter, my 4dr 318i would only work off the passenger side, my 320 4dr would only work off the boot lock!)

I would be very surprised if both doors on your car came from the same source!DazzyA wrote:Thanks mate, I guess it's not original then.
BMW do a key that only fits the doors and ignition, which doesn't fit the boot or glovebox, as well as a key that works them all, but if your key works the ignition, then it should work both doors.

I have one key for the door(large fob) and one key for the ignition(small fob). I'll try the ignition key in the passenger door, I know that door is original!!

I've had some fun with door locks recently. If you have a separate key for ignition and drivers door lock then at some stage the lock or door has been changed. If your ignition key works in the passenger door then you could take the barrel out of that door and the drivers as well and a locksmith will match the door barrel with the other. Shouldn't cost that much. If your ignition key doesn't work in the boot but works on the passenger lock then chances are you have the valet key, which as Brian says won't work on the boot or glove box. You can get the original key code from BMW (you have to prove ownership of the vehicle) and then a locksmith can cut a key from code for you. This works as long as the locks are the original ones that were on the car from new. Sorry bout the long post.

I'm sure the driver's door has been changed as it doesn't line up very well, it's a bit low and there is too big a gap at the rear panel. Someone has managed to "round" off the torx bolts as well!!
