Saw a friend this morning in his Touring & sadly he's been hit on the M3. Car written off but he's bought it back (wripped off by insurance - sods...). He's known the car since new, bought it for his late father and now he runs it.
He'll need a new n/s door and front wing and there is a ripple on the sill that would need pulling straight, and the door hinge pillar too as its slightly out I think.
Anyone recommend a garage sympathic to these cars to do the work? South east.
I did notice the old chestnut of rust on the scuttle in that corner, so in for a penny I would suggest that's done too, as he wants to keep it going understandably.
Thanks for feedback

How did he get ripped off by the insurance co as he should have got a decent payout if the accident wasn't his fault and he had proof of the cars value/replacement costs.

First quote on car value was something like 100 quid or next to nothing, he asked for that to be reivewed & while that was going on they came back and offered a bit more and seems to me intimidated him to accept it. You know what people are like on phones, he's retired & maybe not as combative as you or I.SexyLady wrote:How did he get ripped off by the insurance co as he should have got a decent payout if the accident wasn't his fault and he had proof of the cars value/replacement costs.
Anyway, shopping list would be for n/s Front door & wing for starters in that typical red (ideally) if anyone has those cheers

Oh & foreign driver hit him so I don't think it's straightforwardSexyLady wrote:How did he get ripped off by the insurance co as he should have got a decent payout if the accident wasn't his fault and he had proof of the cars value/replacement costs.

Doesn't matter if a foreign driver hit him its up to the insurance company to reclaim their losses, my sons payout on his vert went from £4500 to £6700 when he could prove the value of the cars and he sold the car on as well.
I'd check to see if there is anything that he can do about it as I believe he was bullied in to accepting an offer.
Cheapest one I could fine on PH is £4k
The most expensive is £10k

I don't like seeing people screwed over and it seems his insurance company did the dirty on him.

Don't get this, the purpose of Insurance is to put you back in the position you were in pre-accident?
If they argue about value, you produce adverts from PH, Autotrader etc.
You need enough money off them(minus excess) to buy another E30, yes?

That sounds about right doesn't it, i only know what I've been told and on his behalf I'm gonna try and find out who can fix his car for him, or at least source parts to get it half decent in the meantime.M3KUK wrote:Don't get this, the purpose of Insurance is to put you back in the position you were in pre-accident?

Would Hertfordshire be too far for him? I would recommend M&S Body Repairs, Pound Farm, Hollybush Lane, Datchworth, Knebworth SG3 6RE, 01438 813768 (Mark Bullard or his No 2 Jay)
It is a very small business but did a good job for me repairing an E36 that I bought back from insurers after a write-off, also recently repaired a Mini for my daughter in law, sourcing a S/H door in the process, in both cases we made a good profit in the process. They have also worked on other cars for me and I have always been pleased with what they have done.
If your friend has not yet accepted the valuation in writing he should challenge it, he is entitled to be put back in the same position, so he should ask them where he can get a similar car for what they are offering. If necessary going to the Insurance Ombudsman.

I had a total loss on another (unusual) vehicle, my insurers valuation ('book value') was 50% of the market value. Took it to the insurance ombudsman, they sided with the insurer.Shutthatdoor wrote:That sounds about right doesn't it, i only know what I've been told and on his behalf I'm gonna try and find out who can fix his car for him, or at least source parts to get it half decent in the meantime.M3KUK wrote:Don't get this, the purpose of Insurance is to put you back in the position you were in pre-accident?

Niche cars need agreed value.
