Hi all,
Ever since I've owned my 89 325i sport, the key has only ever worked in the ignition, I relied on the cobra alarm to open the central locking, as you can imagine it's slightly anoying when you get a flat battery!
Anyway I finally ordered a lock repair kit from BMW and buily a new lock to suit my key, really easy and actually a lot of fun, anyway on removing the old lock I decided to strip it and decode it but found the original lock has 11 wafers and my new one has 8, slightly confused so if anyone knows what the difference is I'd be very grateful

Not a expert on the locks. But bmw ordered the wrong one for me. As on the system our right hand drives drivers lock comes back as a passengers cos of the left hand drive. Not sure if that is why??

You've been given the wrong repair set.
I recall that none of the BMW dealers have repair kits for RHD drivers door, they are NLA, which should include the full set including the deadlock tumblers etc (11 tumblers)
If you ask Cotswold on the forum here for a quotation, they have, or at least had, full RHD UK drivers door repair kits, which include everything for a full rebuild including tumblers, barrel etc.

Oh, thought it was odd and a little too easy, will have to check all my available wafers and see if I can rebuild the original then, thanks for your replies

If not a good locksmith shop can get them. Or even ebay it...
Also order the mechanism for the dead lock while your at it they do stick and sometimes very hard to get the dead lock off. And no alarm system central locking will get you out if it if you dead lock the car

Just go to the dealers and let them pin point the part. If its a special order and you give them the part number and its wrong, no refund!
