My Odo has stopped working, altho the speedo still operates. Not a big problem since I can get figures from sat.nav. However, E30Wiki states that odo change-out is fairly simple and I would like to do this. Question is - How?

Google/YouTube will have instruction, also you can get the gears/cogs to get your odo working
again

You will need to know if your cluster is a VDO or a motometer brand

Failing gears are just about unheard of in the UK. This is a problem that seems only to affect cars in hotter climates than ours.
You don't say where you are - is there a clue in your username?

As Brian says, this is a common problem in Spain. I can give you the details of a Spanish E30 forum where "group purchases" of gears is common (keeps the cost down, although they are not expensive anyway) if you are in Spain and speak the lingo.
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

Thanks for the various suggestions. Yes, my location is Spain (Costa Blanca North) so would appreciate the Spanish E30 Forum details.

Having referenced the various excerllent suggestions since my initial post it seems necessary to remove the instrument cluster to establish precisely the correct parts for the repair. It seems a bit of a fag then having to refit it whilst awaiting the ordered parts, and then remove it again to effect repair.
Is it possible to run the car with the instrument cluster removed, or will the ems throw a hissy-fit and refuse to start?

Car will run fine with the cluster removed, but, with all the trim out of the way, it's a two minute job to remove or refit it. Just the two plugs on the back and a couple of screws.
